I’m starting a new project, it’s called Bird of the Month.
Over the years I’ve made a good number of pieces shaped as birds, they are a constant source of amusement and inspiration. I have tons of bird-related sketches and ideas, so I’ve decided to do something with them: once a month, I’ll take time off from my usual work to make a bird.
Here’s the first one. It’s based on a sketch that I made maybe 16 years ago that I recently found between the pages of a book. Back then I still had not started making jewelry, it was actually a draft for a character in a short story for children that I wrote. When I saw it again, I realized that it should be turned into a ring.
Going through my old family photographs recently I saw a picture of me as a baby in my bedroom. In the background you can see the wallpaper which is filled with birds. Looking at it again, I can’t help but think that my thing with birds started back then.
